Last night in Paris the Shortlist of the Fifth Prix Pictet Consumption was unveiled at the Musée d'Art Moderne by Stephen Barber, the Chairman of the Prix Pictet, the world's leading photography prize for sustainability.

The independent jury, chaired by Sir David King, made their selection from portfolios selected from over 650 photographers nominated for the award.

The work of nominated photographers spanned the entire range of contemporary photographic practice, from fine art to photojournalism.

The Shortlist features 11 artists from nine countries on four continents: Belgium, China, Colombia, Germany, Japan, Netherlands, Nigeria, Ukraine and the United States.

The fifth Prix Pictet prize of CHF100,000 will be announced by Kofi Annan on 21 May 2014 at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. The opening of the exhibition of works from the shortlisted artists will run from 22 May to 14 June 2014.

At the award ceremony one of the nominated photographers will be invited to undertake a Commission in a region where the Pictet Group is supporting a sustainability project.
