Art Paris Art Fair 2013

Press Release 23rd January 2013

AN EASTERLY WIND IS BLOWING OVER
ART PARIS ART FAIR 2013
RUSSIA IS GUEST OF HONOUR

From 28th March to 1st April 2013, ART PARIS ART FAIR brings together 140 galleries from 21 countries under the majestic glass roof of the Grand Palais. The fair presents modern and contemporary art and is confirming its identity as the art event that focusses on the art scenes of the East (Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Asia). For the first time, it has decided to invite a country as guest of honour. This year it is Russia.

MANY NEWCOMERS AND A MORE INTERNATIONAL SELECTION
With 61 newcomers to the fair, the 2013 selection brings profound changes and a notable expansion of its international dimension. This year, 21 countries are represented (compared to 16 in 2012) and a total of 43% of participants are from abroad. Several countries are joining for the first time, notably Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Slovenia and finally Russia, which comes with an unprecedented representation of 11 galleries.

Among the new participants are Laurent Delaye Gallery (London), Michel Soskine (Madrid), Heino Gallery (Helsinki), Tanit (Munich), Bodson-Emelinckx Gallery (Brussels), Várfok Gallery (Budapest), SEM Art Gallery (Monaco), Mimmo Scognamiglio (Milan) et Galleria Giuseppe Pero (ex 1 000 Eventi, Milan).

With regards to France, ART PARIS ART FAIR welcomes the return of several leading galleries, including Christophe Gaillard, Suzanne Tarasiève and Christian Berst. A number of other major French players on the art scene are coming for the first time, notably Pièce Unique, Anne de Villepoix, Galerie Maeght and Fleury in the modern section.

RUSSIA, COUNTRY OF HONOUR
In line with its policy of exploring the art scenes of the East, Art Paris Art Fair has invited Russia as guest of honour. A central space in the fair will be dedicated to some 10 galleries from a number of cities in Russia including, Moscow, Saint-Petersburg, Rostov-on-Don and Vladivostok while some 15 European galleries will show work by Russian artists. With around 90 artists represented, ART PARIS ART FAIR will be an opportunity to discover or rediscover Russian art, with work made by leading talents from the diaspora of the 1920s and 1930s (such as Boris Grigoriev and Aleksandr Yakovlev), the non-conformists who opposed the Soviet power culture from 1960 to 1991 (Vladimir Andreenkov, Erik Bulatov, Igor Makarevich…) to the stars of the contemporary art scene (AES+F, Olga Chernysheva, Oleg Kulik, Boris Mikhailov, Pavel Pepperstein, Olga Kisseleva, Alexei Vassiliev...).

Also on show at the fair will be the leading figures of Russian photography such as Nikolay Bakharev and Alexander Gronsky at Grindberg Gallery and Rauf Mamedov at Lilja Zakriova Gallery.

“PROMISES:” A NEW SECTION DEDICATED TO YOUNG GALLERIES
This year ART PARIS ART FAIR is launching a new section entitled “Promises” reserved for galleries that have been established for less than five years and who have never participated in the fair. Twelve galleries are taking part in this new initiative which aims to provide an opportunity to discover new talents. The 2013 selection includes the following : 16th Line (Rostov on Don), Leonardi Agosti (Sète), Backslash (Paris), Duplex 10m² (Sarajevo), Edward Cutler (Milan), Lam Art Gallery (Riyad), Lehr Zeitgenössische Kunst (Cologne), NK Gallery (Antwerp), Gallery de Roussan (Paris), Vincent Sator (Paris), Trinity Contemporary (London), XPO Gallery (Paris).
“Promises” is supported by l’Officiel Art

ARTDESIGN PLATFORM : EXPLORING THE LINKS BETWEEN DESIGN AND CONTEMPORARY ART
The objective of the Artdesign platform is the exploration of the links and cross-over between design and contemporary art. Eight cutting-edge galleries have been selected to present one-of-a-kind, exclusive pieces made by contemporary talents. On show will be for example the “sculpture-objects” made by Hubert Le Gall presented as a one-man show by Mazel Gallery, unique pieces by Mattia Bonetti at Cat-Berro gallery, and the latest work by designers Arik Levy, matali Crasset and Pupsam at Slott gallery. Domeau & Pérès gallery will present a thematic « monochrome » show while MiniMasterpiece gallery will uncover jewels made by artists and designers. For its first participation, Perimeter honors the African design.
The Artdesign platform is supported by IDEAT Magazine
