Being both musician and artist, Nico Vascellari combines his sculptural installations with sound performances. Through his performances he investigates the relation between the viewer, the space and the action. He is drawn to cult figures connected to the music scene with whom he collaborates or to which he reacts in his work. Inspired by his fascination with rituals, spiritualism and cult, he reflects on the thought of destruction as a driving energy to the construction of things. This leads him into the idea of mapping spaces, energies, sounds and nature, all of which are central themes in his work. [...]
Nico Vascellari (Born in Vittorio Veneto, Italy in 1976) is a hardcore punk musician and a visual artist. Vascellari work's with different media including performance, sculpture, video, sound installation and collage. In 2005 Vascellari was awarded “The First International Prize for Performance_01D” and in 2007 was short-listed for the Furla Prize. His work has been exhibited at the “DB Collection Italy”, Deutsche Bank, Milan and “Apocalittici e Integrati”, MAXXI Museum, Rome. His work was included in the 52nd Venice Biennial (where he was awarded the Prize for Italian Art) the Manifesta (2008) and the Quadriennale di Roma (2008). He also presented a performance at Marina Abramovic Institute in 2010.
