Tomoaki Suzuki

Tomoaki Suzuki at The Mew Project Space

"Tomoaki Suzuki's sculptural portraits use traditional Japanese wood carving techniques to depict various fashion trends, often from London's East End. The artist reflect on patterns of wester consumerism, with each work attempting to capture the style of the time in street or high street fashion. Suzuki's hand crafted sculptures, which he has been creating since 1998, collectively record an iconography of change in dress and customs of urban youth culture."

It reminds me of those referential figures that we can find in churches and other Catholic religious gathering places.
